A street festival is a different apple day
Applefest is the choice for someone who wants downtown stalls, food and a shared autumn atmosphere. It is not an orchard ticket or a pick-your-own plan. That distinction matters with children who may hear “apple day” and expect to climb into a field. Tell the group what the event actually is, then choose one or two things you want to do rather than trying to see every stall before anyone can stop.
Older Reddit threads show how easily autumn plans can blur together. An October 2021 apple-picking conversation asked whether Applefest was running and received a cancellation reply for that year. An October 2025 events thread recommended its October 18 edition. Neither date should travel forward into a 2026 plan. The BIA’s current event page gives Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A date-specific autumn outing
The BIA lists apples, cider, baked goods and an artisan market across four downtown blocks. This is a street festival, not a pick-your-own orchard. Choose it for browsing and eating in the town centre.
An older October 2019 date-idea thread suggested Applefest and a salmon walk. That is background interest, not the 2026 calendar. The date and hours here come from the current organiser page.

Know when the road closes, not just when stalls open
The municipality’s October 14 notice closes King Street from Scugog Street to George Street and parts of Division, Silver and Temperance streets from 6 p.m. Friday, October 16, until 7 p.m. Saturday, October 17.
Festival hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The longer road-closure window allows setup and clearing. Do not use the event opening time as permission to drive through before it begins.

The shuttle is free but does not fit every visitor
The organiser lists free parking at Clarington Central Secondary School, 200 Clarington Boulevard, with shuttles about every 15 minutes. It explicitly says the shuttles are not accessible. Anyone needing accessible transport should use the organiser’s accessible-parking guidance before setting out.
Free admission does not include your food or market purchases. Decide on a spending limit and allow time for queues. The organiser mentions a line for fritters, so do not make one food stall your only meal plan.

Free entry still needs a spending and access plan
Admission and parking are free, while food and purchases are separate. Decide whether you are going for a browse and a small treat or a longer visit with a meal. That makes the budget clearer than calling the entire day free. Carrying a few purchases back to the car also takes time, so a shorter visit can be the more comfortable choice for someone who cannot walk or stand for long.
The free shuttle from Clarington Central Secondary School at 200 Clarington Boulevard is listed at about 15-minute intervals, but it is not accessible. A visitor who needs an accessible vehicle should arrange a suitable arrival rather than relying on that bus. Road closures begin at 6 p.m. on October 16 and continue until 7 p.m. on October 17, beyond the festival’s stall hours. Plan the actual approach to downtown, including the closed sections of King, Temperance, Division and Silver streets, before a driver drops someone off or tries to retrieve a car.
