Complaints need identifying details

Use Service Clarington for barking, running-at-large and waste complaints. Animal Services does not take anonymous complaints. For barking, provide your details and the dog owner’s address; an officer can warn the owner and may later need a dated noise log.

There are no approved daytime hours for persistent barking. Pets, including cats, must be leashed off their owner’s property, except dogs in designated leash-free areas. Clean up waste immediately.

Know the service boundary

Animal Services does not investigate cruelty or neglect, remove owned animals from homes, handle healthy nuisance wildlife on private land, or collect dead animals from private property or regional roads. Use the appropriate provincial, wildlife or road-owner service.

The source says there is no after-hours Animal Services response. For immediate risk from an aggressive or suspected rabid animal it directs callers to Durham Regional Police at 905-579-1520. Other concerns can be left for the next business day.
