Municipal-tree responsibility
Public Works maintains boulevard and roadside trees and trees in municipal parks and facilities. For a dead, diseased, overgrown or damaged municipal tree, submit Service Clarington or call 905-623-3379 extension 2661.
Staff assess whether to trim, remove or replace the tree. Do not treat submitting a request as approval to do work yourself. Woodland tree removal may also require a Region of Durham permit under the local tree-protection framework.

Choose the right planting scale
Trees for Rural Roads provides free trees to rural residents for planting on private land along municipal roads. It is not an offer of an unrestricted free ornamental tree for every urban garden.
Durham Trees supports private landowners planting at least two acres with a minimum 500 native trees. Conservation Authority contacts depend on location. The source’s regional forest-cover goal has an undated forward-looking period, so no claim is made that the target was met or is a new 2026 deadline.

Backyard support and dated notices
LEAF provides subsidized tree and shrub planting with an arborist consultation, selection help, planting or delivery, and care resources. Check its current intake and quote rather than assuming the program is free.
The municipal page retains 2021 ash-replacement plans and a projected 2022 spongy-moth notice. These are historical context, not current work schedules or a verified 2026 outbreak. This guide does not repeat them as upcoming events.
